Speaker Biography:
Peter Atherton received a Bachelor of Architecture degree
from Penn State University, a Master of Architectural
Science from Cornell University and a Ph.D in Engineering
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Following several
years of hands-on research and development, he has held
executive leadership roles at GE’s Global Research Center,
HNI Corporation and two successful venture-backed technology
companies. In his current role, Dr. Atherton leads the
development and technical support of new products for
Pittsburgh Corning’s Glass Block business. He is also the
leader for Lean at the company’s corporate office in
Pittsburgh.

High Performance Glass Block Systems –
LEED, Safety and Security (AIA Continuing Education)
This presentation discusses how glass block
applications can contribute to LEED points and
sustainability, and how new blast and hurricane resistant
glass block systems are providing high levels of safety and
security. Participants will learn what LEED points glass
block applications can contribute to as well as
sustainability contributions that go beyond LEED. They will
also learn about government and military requirements for
blast and hurricane resistance, and how recent advances in
glass block panels and windows that have enabled high levels
of safety and security.
