Protective Glazing Products
An interactive presentation including blast video
illustrations of product performance, defining protective
glazing products used for specific threat classifications,
identifying building codes and standards utilized in the
protective glazing market, and gaining an understanding of
the characteristics of laminated glass.
Commercial Glass School
An overview of basic glass processes, glass history,
fabrication techniques and features and benefits of
high-performance reflective and Low-E coatings on glass.
Customizing with Glass
A methodology of using glass, PVB interlayers, coatings
and silk-screen patterns to customize an architectural glass
design project.
Designing with Daylight
A novel approach to maximizing natural daylight while
minimizing heat gain into a building.
Hurricane-Resistant Glass
A discussion of the features and limitations of
hurricane-resistant glazing products and testing
requirements for coastal regions.
Silk-screened Glass: Design Your
Performance
A discussion of the unlimited uses for silk-screened
glass as well as instructions on the positive attributes
silk-screened glass has with structural aesthetics, glare
reduction, increased solar performance and creation of
light-play applications.
Laminated Glass: Protecting You
A discussion of the benefits of using laminated glass,
whether to control a building’s environment or to enhance
safety and security, and where it is required by code. The
program offers case studies for architectural and security
applications.
Glass Performance Pitfalls
A discussion of the inherent characteristics that occur
in fabrication of commercial glass products. The program
covers distortion in heat-treated glass, glazing distortion,
insulating glass evaluation, edge quality, breakage, and
glass staining.
The Future of Glass: From Passive to
Active Materials
An introduction to new glass-related products being
researched and developed for the commercial market. There is
also discussion related to existing products’ coating
techniques, including reflective, anti-reflective and Low-E
coatings, building-integrated photovoltaics, new coating
technologies, electrochromics, holograms and integration of
these products.
Balancing: Energy Codes & Design
Architects can design a building the way they want and
still meet energy codes. Specifiers are able to spec
products that meet energy guidelines. Participants are able
to analyze performance criteria to better understand energy
saving requirements.
Aesthetics of Glass
An exploration of the glass and glazing options that
affect overall building aesthetics. The program begins with
discussion covering individual choices available such as
glass colors, coatings, ceramic frit colors and more. In
addition to verbal discussion, photographs of these options
will be shown on finished buildings to help visualize the
effects. After reviewing the individual options,
participants will discover how they can be combined and
incorporated within projects.
Glass Solutions – The Power of Performance
(3 LU’s)
A three-part program conducted at trade association
conventions. It covers acoustical glass, security glass,
hurricane-resistant glass and high-performance coatings.
Viracon Plant Tour, Glass Fabrication Site
Visit (3 LU’s)
An interactive production plant tour, covering cutting,
tempering, silk-screening, coating, laminating, special
fabrication and insulating glass processes. [Please schedule
at least one month in advance. Travel costs are the
responsibility of the attendee.]
Roundtable Discussion (3 LU’s)
A program that covers glass product fabrication, as well
as explores color and performance options, using
silk-screened, laminated, insulated and coated products.
