Weidlinger Associates (WAI) is a renowned structural
engineering firm specializing in buildings, bridges, infrastructure,
security, and applied science. With a staff of more than 300, the firm has
seven U.S. offices and an office in the United Kingdom.
WAI’s applied science division has earned the firm a
unique identity for its approach to the study of structure through theory,
analysis, and practice. Since the 1950s, WAI has led the way in the study of
blast, shock, impact, and vibration effects. In recent years, the scope has
broadened beyond military structures to include unhardened or lightly
hardened public and civilian buildings.
Improvements in the ability to analyze glass enabled WAI
to develop a “balanced window system” to replace the GSA standard of thick
windows with rigid frames. The new system, now the industry standard, was
used to design blast-resistant curtain walls for the Las Vegas Federal
Courthouse and the new Oklahoma City Federal Building.
WAI’s risk management services help clients understand and
use the results of comprehensive risk assessments to make critical decision,
including site selection, resource allocation, rehabilitation and retrofit,
financial risk transfer, disaster response and recovery, and establishment
of design criteria for new infrastructure.
