PGC International Spring Meeting
Generates Committee Excitement
The agenda for the PGC International Spring Meeting in Orlando, Florida
focused on laying the groundwork for the four committees in the
organization. Three of the committees, Liaison, Resources and Technical,
were created in late 2007 to organize efforts by PGC International to
expand its offering to the industry as a whole. Each of the four
committees (including Marketing) with agenda items at the Spring Meeting
had held conference calls in the past three months to prepare for the
work at the meeting.
The event began Wednesday, March 12th with a meeting of the Board
of Directors. Bill Yanek, PGC International’s new Executive Director
introduced himself to the Board and outlined his commitment to
strengthening the organization. “PGC International has the challenge to
represent an entire industry whose importance is unequalled in the world
today,” said Yanek. “We will meet that challenge with great energy and
enthusiasm.”

Former PGC International
Executive Director Retires
Stanley
L. Smith, former Executive Director of the organization, retired on
March 1, 2008. Smith, who had been with PGC International since late
2000, was succeeded by Bill Yanek. In Smith’s seven years as Executive
Director, membership in the organization grew by more than 40%, a
stronger financial base for the organization was established, and the
organization embraced more of an international focus.
“Stan helped strengthen the organization,” said Yanek. “His efforts
in the industry are greatly appreciated.” At the 2007 Annual Symposium,
the PGC International Board of Directors named Smith an Honorary Member
of the organization.
PGC International Resources Committee
Scouting New Papers, Presentations,
Videos
The Resources Committee of the Protective Glazing Council
International is currently searching for new reference papers,
educational presentations and videos for publishing on the PGC
International website. The site currently holds a sizeable amount of
information, though portions of its contents have become somewhat
outdated. It is essential that the Council offer and maintain its
quality references.
In efforts to provide accurate and informative
resources, the Committee is soliciting white papers, informational
papers and videos with little blatant marketing, as well as AIA or
CSI-accredited presentations related to protective glazing to be
published on the PGC International website. As the Resources
section of the website is consistently one of the top pages visited by
approximately 60,000 visitors from around the globe, placement of the
papers, articles, presentations and videos can be a useful marketing
tool for research and work performed in the industry.
