PGC International Annual Symposium
Provided Forum for Collaboration
The Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International's
Annual Symposium in Arlington, Virginia, featured a great deal of
discussion about collaboration between the organization and other
industry trade associations, such as the Glass Association of North
America (GANA) and the American Architectural Manufacturers Association
(AAMA). PGC
International
held a joint strategic planning session with GANA at the event, followed
by committee work on the Protective Glazing Manual, which is being
authored as a collaborative effort by PGC International and GANA. During
the joint sessions, several members of both organizations remarked on
the benefits of tackling important issues together, as well as the
importance of PGC International in the industry.
"There's a lot of overlap with the associations, and some
of our members belong to one or more of the other organizations," said
PGC International Ron McCann of Viracon. "But I think what PGC
International brings is opportunity for different groups to come
together without a specific goal in mind. GANA is glass and glazing
focused, primarily, while AAMA is a manufacturers' association, with a
lot of test methods and standards. PGC International has members from
both segments, and we bring in members from the film side of the
industry as well. I think we have an opportunity to have a more
broad-based membership, providing a neutral voice speaking for the
industry."

PGC International Web Video
Section Continues to Grow
The Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International's new
Video Section debuted immediately after the Annual Symposium three weeks
ago, and already several videos have been offered to industry visitors
of the site. The debut featured PGC
International's new web video
series "An Interview With...", which began with an interview with
the association's current President, Ron McCann of Viracon. Since
the debut, an additional episode featuring Joseph Smith of Applied
Research Associates and this week's new episode featuring Ryan Russell
of Hope's Windows have been published to the site with great results.
"Our initial audience for this new series is better
than anticipated," said Brian Pitman, Director of Marketing and
Communications for PGC International. "The episodes featuring Ron
and Joe have drawn over 1,400 views so far, and we anticipate that
audience increasing as we begin to promote it beyond the boundaries of
the protective glazing industry into more government, commercial and
architectural communities."

will exhibit at the BOMA International "The Every Building Show",
which takes place June 28-30, 2009 in Philadelphia as a part of the
organization's annual conference. BOMA
International, an
organization of building owners and managers, represents 92 local

"The PGC International Board of Directors assessed
various opportunities for the association to offer information and
educational resources to the industry," explained Bill Yanek, PGC
International Executive
Director. "We have a strong outreach to the
architectural community in place already, but BOMA International offers
a new and important audience to our members."

PGC International Updates
Informational Paper for the Industry
In 2005, the Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International
first released An Information Paper on the Fenestration Industry -
Focus on Protective Glazing Systems. Since that time, the document has been downloaded over 7,000 times by
members of the industry. The document, which is a broad-range look
at the various organizations, resources, standards and specifications in
the protective glazing industry, was marked for update earlier this year
by the PGC International Resources Committee.
"The Committee recognized the many changes in the
industry over the past three years," explained Sara Neiswanger, Account
Executive for PGC International. "After several thorough
examinations
'in-person' and online, Committee members were able to bring this valuable resource
up-to-date for the many who have downloaded it from our website."

PGC International Virtual
Tradeshow Extended through 2008
The Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International
first ever "Virtual Tradeshow" has been extended through the rest of
2008 due to a great response from the industry. In the month of
November, over 2,100 unique visitors browsed through the virtual booths
of the tradeshow, learning more about PGC International members
exhibiting there, including products and services, as well as videos and
more.
"We are very happy with the response so far,"
explained Brian Pitman, Director of Marketing and Communications for the
organization. "The Board of Directors decided to extend the show
as a way of giving the industry more information about our members and a
chance to showcase those that purchased a booth."

PGC International Accepted for
Presentation at GlassFab
The Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International
has been accepted as a presenter during the Contract Glazing General
Session at the GANA Glass Fabrication & Glazing Educational Conference
next year in Cincinnati. The event, which routinely draws over 200
attendees including fabricators, glazing contractors and estimators from
across North America, educates those new to the industry (typically in
it for five years or less.) The presentation will offer an
introduction to the protective glazing industry for many of those who
will be specifying and buying products for use protective glazing
applications.
"We are pleased that PGC International will be
presenting to our members," said Ashley Charest, Account Executive for
GANA. "They will bring hands-on expertise about protective glazing
products, applications and concepts to our contract glazing project
managers and estimators who will greatly appreciate and utilize the
knowledge."
