PGC International Message from the
President
Dear PGC International Members,
With
our Annual Symposium (Protective Glazing in a Green World –
Sustainability & Protection) complete and the results tallied I thought
I would share some of the highlights.
The total attendance was (59) which included (41) of our
(60) members, (5) potential new members, and (4) government employees.
Initially we had planned for (106) to attend but as the Symposium date
approached it became clear that adjustments needed to be made. I would
like to compliment the staff on promptly responding to the situation
which minimized our short fall due to the lesser attendance revenue.
For those that did have an opportunity to attend, the
feedback was quite positive and was supported by the evaluation sheets
completed at the conclusion of each presentation. Some of the
presentations which scored the highest were:
The View Ahead – Harvey Bernstein, McGraw Hill
Constitution Center Case Study – David Varner, SmithGroup Architects
Window Research & Development – Marc LaFrance – U.S. Dept. of Energy
Specifying & Testing: Avoiding the Pitfalls – Larry Livermore,
Architectural Testing
United Facilities Criteria / Interagency Security Committee
Comparison - Quincy Alexander, Applied Research Associates
After reviewing the attendees “recommendations for
improvement” and “suggested topics” it appears that we have topics of
interest to all, however the majority of our members are looking for
more in-depth topics and discussions than what is attainable in a large
group format. In an attempt to provide this service to our membership,
and accommodate declining attendance and changing travel allowances each
company is facing, the Executive Committee of PCC International has
decided to change the format of our Spring Meeting scheduled for May 6th
& 7th in Orlando, FL. The Spring Meeting and its Committee meetings will
still take place on the set dates, however it will be conducted via
webinar. More details and agendas will be released soon.
In addition, to grow PGC International’s reputation as
the source for protective glazing related education, the association
plans to begin a monthly educational webinar series, with complimentary
attendance to all. Presentations will address specific topics that our
membership has requested more information and/or detail on. For example,
on January 3oth, Viracon provided a 45 minute webinar on Protective Glazing Products & How to Specify
Them. You will be able to view each presentation right on your computer
at your own desk, as well as a rebroadcast of previous presentations.
Please look for more information on this new exciting
media coming from the PGC International team. They are outlining upcoming
topics, and will explain how you can participate, present,
become a sponsor, and much more. In addition, Brian Pitman, Dir.
of Marketing and Communications, will update you on the new Premium
profile opportunities that are available to our members via the PGC
International website. The number of viewings that have been documented
are quite impressive and I urge each of to seriously consider this very
inexpensive means to promote your company. I can tell you from personal
experience that I have received (3) direct leads since November as a
result of Viracon’s participation and considering the amount of
promotion Viracon does on our own – that’s impressive.
2009 will be one of the most challenging years in recent
times. The marketplace has changed dramatically and in order for
organizations like PGC International to continue to grow and thrive, we
need to bring value to our members. I hope that you find some of the new
initiatives we have embarked on – committee opportunities, and now
webinar sessions, are of value to you and you reward PGC International
with your continued membership, active participation, continuous
feedback, and sponsorship support.
Regards,
Ron McCann
