PGC International Message from the Marketing Committee
Dear PGC International Members,

In April of this year, the Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International Marketing Committee determined it was time for PGC International to verify that the current goals of the association were meeting the needs of its members. The Committee solicited membership participation in a survey, asking for honest and thoughtful feedback, and the results of the survey were reviewed during the 2009 Spring Meeting webinar.

On behalf of the Marketing Committee, thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. Many of the comments have already ignited the development of new methods to successfully complete current initiatives as well as determining steps that will put PCG International in a position of authority in the near future. I am pleased to find that PCG International’s goals and activities are in line with several of your ideas. Below are a few comments received and how PCG International is already working to address them.

- There are too many conference calls
A year ago, PGC International established four committees which were intended to focus on industry outreach, marketing, technical and website resource documents. As many of the committee members and projects began to overlap, we took action during the 2009 Spring Meeting webinar to consolidate these four committees into two: Technical Resources Committee and Marketing and Communications Committee. This will help the committees better focus and coordinate its efforts and reduce your time spent on multiple conference calls.

- Alternate meeting locations so the travel burden is spread
- Coordinate meetings with other industry organizations

This year’s PGC International Fall meeting will take place in Kansas City, MO in collaboration with the Glass Association of North America’s (GANA) Fall Conference. In addition to addressing Board position elections and committee meetings, this forum will allow greater attendance at the joint Protective Glazing Manual task group meeting. In addition, a presentation relating to protective glazing will be held during GANA’s Protective Glazing Committee meeting, and open to PGC International members. Other partnership opportunities are being considered for the Spring 2010 meeting as well.

Finally, it was voiced by several members that PGC International make greater efforts to more evenly distribute the weight placed on the various areas of protective glazing: ballistics, blast, fire, forced entry, hurricane and seismic. PGC International initiated these steps when planning the 2008 Annual Symposium program. Our efforts will continue as the Technical Resources Committee develops product selection guidelines for each of the areas listed above. We consider the representation of each segment important and necessary to the balance of the association. The appropriate body within PGC International is open to considering projects or initiatives you feel are important to a specific segment and to the industry as a whole.

The Marketing and Communications Committee received much valuable information from your feedback. Thank you again for your time and participation, and for your investment in PGC International and its pursuit to become the industry resource for protective glazing products.

Again, please feel free to contact me directly with any concerns or ideas. I am here to listen and work with you to enhance our association.

Sincerely,

Ron McCann
PGC International President
